Reflection on a colorful commission painting
Share
Back in January, I started off the year with a commission piece for a special someone - my cousin who is 4 ...I had done a commission for her older sister years ago, now it was finally time to give her a painting too!
Her inspiration was a tiered dress with 4 fun bright colors.
The challenge was to include the inspiration colors but make it cohesive and not look messy or chaotic. I wanted to incorporate as much color as possible but still make it look harmonious and pleasing to the eye. I had to make it my style as well. I wanted to do big bold brushstrokes.
I felt a bit rusty when I first started painting. I hadn't painted a lot in the past few years. Maybe due to artist's block, maybe also due to becoming a mother and my schedule changing drastically. It has been harder to find the time to do a full on painting session when most of the time I'm taking care of my child.

After several sessions, finally it just felt right. I did a few finishing touches, sprayed some finishing protective spray on it, and it was ready to go! I rolled the canvas up and packed it into a tube for shipping. Then they will take it to a framer to stretch it into the final piece. I think she is happy with it and it will bring a smile to her face and cheerfulness to her room.
Here's a mockup of the finished product!
